Apple TV to support new iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store soon?
Seems like a logical next step. What a great way for me to waste yet another pile of money on Apple. Surf the iTunes library from the comfort of your couch, better search with new Apple wireless keyboard and USB+Bluetooth dongle receiver (yet, another speculation). iTunes 7.4.2 anyone?
Looks like Jobs wasn’t kidding when he called the Apple TV a “hobby”. Seems like he hasn’t picked it up in ages (like that miniature train fetish you picked up last winter). C’mon, Steve, we love the Apple TV. Get it going again!
We all have our complaints, and here are a few Steve: 1.) HD output. Hooked up to our HD sets it’s like a big slap in the face and a tease at the same time. Make the content available on iTunes and enable the hardware via update. 2.) USB hard drive support. I don’t see where Apple can go wrong with Apple customers, daisy chaining 1TB+ in drives containing hundreds of dollars in iTunes content (and profit). $100 markup to the 160GB version vs mucho moolah in iTunes revenue… Hmm, I know which one I’d choose. 3.) The previously mentioned availability of iTunes on the Apple TV. All three of these are complaints that not only make sense and work in-conjunction with each, but benefit both Apple and the consumer.
What are you looking for in the future with your Apple TV? True HD support? HD content on iTunes? More OS X capabilities unlocked? Let us know!

720p please.
On the existing AppleTV (and new ones), I’d like to see:
Interactive News (deal with ABC News?)
1) Dolby Digital Audio
2) Movie/TV rentals (directly on the AppleTV)
3) 720p iTunes store
4) (AUSTRALIAN Movie/TV store)
5) Localised content (eg: Local weather widget, Movie trailers for movies now showing at my local cinema!)
6) Huge external hard disk
7) Keep my iTunes content on my AppleTV, and sync a subset to my Laptop (rather than the opposite it is now).
(ie: Why not download news stories on demand, just like movie previews? Then let me browse for the stories I want to watch. Give an option to pre-cache all the latest news.)
In terms of a updated AppleTV, there’s not that much I’d like to see but more power is always good for future expandability.
1) Bigger hard disk
2) 1080p and higher bitrate than 5Mbps (for future).
Just my thoughts
Man, those are some great suggestions! I especially dig the idea of added functionality of widgets and subset hard drive “mounting”.
The main key to those suggestions is that they could be done on today’s box with new software. Though those same functions on a 500GB AppleTV with slightly more power would also be welcome
AppleTV runs on 10.4.7(lite) now, I hope to see some interesting things with 10.5(lite).. though I don’t expect to see all the above!
The obvious hook-up is to use either the iTouch or the iPhone to directly control the Apple TV system, i.e. you can browse the content of your whole library on the iTouch and control playback remotely through your hi-fi. Think it of an Archos type music system. Apple could suddenly sell an awful lot more Apple TV systems if they hooked it all together.
Really nice site you have here. I’ve been reading for a while but this post made me want to say 2 thumbs up. Keep up the great work
Thanks again Steve! Keep reading and spread the word.
